Sūrat Quraysh (The Tribe of Quraysh) is said to have been revealed early in the Makkan ministry, possibly right after the revelation of Sūrat al-Fīl (The Elephant). The sūrah reminds the Quraysh of the favors Allah ﷻ has granted them and directs them to their true purpose. It can be argued that the sūrah may be observed as a short ring structure.
CONNECTIONS
[A]/[A’] – The Quraysh were known for being to safely travel north to Syria and south to Yemen with their wealth-laden caravans. This was because Allah ﷻ made them custodians of the Kaʿbah, which all the Arabian tribes revered. As such, no one dared to attack Quraysh lest something happen to their respective idol which resided yearlong in Makkah. This accommodation is why Allah ﷻ comments about Quraysh that He “fed them” and “made them safe.”
Had it not been for Allah ﷻ favoring them and allowing them to be protectors of the Kaʿbah, then they would not have enjoyed the special wealth and safety afforded to them.
[B] – The center directs Quraysh to their true purpose. Why has Allah ﷻ honored them, protected them, and granted them wealth? All so that they could focus their attention to “worship the Lord of this House.”
And Allah ﷻ knows best.
