I've enjoyed this series. This final installment, though interesting, seems to rely too heavily on one contemporary scholar's point of view. If this is true, there should be evidence in statements from the Salaf to support it. Allaah knows best.

That's a very good point, Saeed.

I was taking these notes from the seminar I attended, but if I had to insert my own opinion here I'd say that the reason we don't find this in the statements of Salaf is because it wasnt something that needed articulating. In other words, we don't tend to state the obvious. Why wouldn't Allah's speech be organized? How would it make sense that it's random? They also inherently understood the relationship between ayah-to-ayah, and surah-to-surah. They dont need someone to spell it out.

As for us, a population that largely reads the Quran in translation or as a second language, the Quran sounds much more jarring to us. We cant see the obvious organization so we grow up believing its order doesnt matter. Shaykh Hamiddudin is very contemporary, so he grew up in the same environment. He was addressing this idea that we find around us today, hence why he attacks it so directly and clearly.

But Allah knows best.

Fair enough, but I do think that there are statements to be found. Allaah knows best.
