We need to Support Muslim Fiction Authors
People are inspired and influenced by stories, not lectures
As-Salaam ‘alaykum,
It’s said that about one third of the Quran is made of stories. Some suwar, like Surat Yusuf are a standalone story on its own. There’s a reason for this.
Lessons are learned, people influenced, and a lasting impression made, when the audience can connect the moral or teaching taught through a character struggle. Human history is the history of oral storytelling. People like stories, not lectures.
With that in mind, I’m personally appealing to you to support N.T. Lazer’s latest story.
Think of how Harry Potter inspired (for better or worse) a generation of kids. We need a Muslim J.K. Rowling who can write a compelling story, but without impermissible relationships. Without people drinking alcohol. Without gambling. Better yet, imagine instilling morals and values, but without being so blunt about it.
This is how morals are passed on to a new generation. Subtly, through compelling characters. Through interesting story arcs. And through imagination.
We need to help support those Muslim writers who are attempting to make an impression in a field where the most viewed stories are most akin to 50 Shades of Grey. I know N.T.Lazer personally, so I am aware of all the “norms” of the writing industry that he has to navigate.
“You should have a LGBT character.”
“People like a good romance.”
“Have you considered any racy scenes to bring in a greater audience?”
“The more unfiltered the language, the better.”
But, alhamdulillah, limits are what spark innovation. N.T.Lazer has been writing short and long form stories for over 8 years now, and never compromises on Islamic morals.
His story are always well-received, but now he’s putting out a 5-book series that needs a push to move up the algorithm against all the immorality clogging the trending page.
Support Muslims fiction writers. Help inspire a generation.
Give it a review, mark it as a favorite, and help move this story upwards!
And most importantly, enjoy a very, very good story :)
God bless,
Munir
