Sūrat aḍ-Ḍuḥā (The Morning Hours) is said to be revealed in the earliest period of the Messenger’s mission in Mecca. By some accounts, it came down after a relatively long lull in communication between Allah ﷻ and the Messenger ﷺ. It is meant to provide encouragement and optimism to those who recite it. It was originally a source of hope for the Messenger ﷺ and it is through his example that we internalize the positive messaging.
If we were to summarize the contents of Sūrat aḍ-Ḍuḥā, it seems that it forms a small ring structure:
CONNECTIONS
[A]/[A’] – The sūrah begins with reassurances to the Messenger ﷺ, informing him that Allah ﷻ was never displeased with him. It also provides hope for the future. Even though things may look bleak in the moment, “the Hereafter is better” and “your Master is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.” The sūrah ends in a similar vein. Just as Allah ﷻ gave the Messenger ﷺ hope in the beginning, now the Messenger ﷺ is being implored to give hope to others.
[B] - The center asks the Messenger ﷺ to reflect on the blessings Allah ﷻ has already granted him. It is through these favors that one in despair can reignite their hope in Allah ﷻ. Just as Allah ﷻ had been taking care of us in the past, He will take care of us in the future as well.
Summarizing the above:
And Allah ﷻ knows best.
